Creating Nero’s Bar was a labor of love that began long before the first brick was laid. After a year of meticulous planning and envisioning every detail, I was ready to turn my dream into reality. This bar was destined to be more than just a place to enjoy fine drinks; it was a tribute to my beloved Rottweiler, Nero, and a haven for friends and family to gather.
The journey officially began at the end of March 2023. Armed with detailed plans and a head full of ideas, I embarked on transforming a simple room into a sophisticated speakeasy. Demolition of the old space was a bittersweet moment, but it also marked the exciting beginning of something new. Nero was my constant companion, always by my side, supervising every step with his calm, watchful eyes.
As the construction progressed, the core structure of the bar started to take shape. The brick wall, which now serves as a charming backdrop, was one of the first major installations, adding a touch of rustic elegance. The intricate wiring for the Sonos speakers and the lighting system was carefully laid out to ensure the perfect ambiance.
With the foundation in place, it was time to bring the vision to life. The astronomy-themed wallpaper and vinyl record player found their home in a special corner of the bar known as “Romeo’s Cove,” named in honor of Nero’s old friend, Romeo the tortoise. This area transformed the space into a celestial and musical haven, adding a unique and captivating tone. Custom shelves were installed to house our extensive whiskey collection and library, each crafted with attention to detail. Nero loved this part of the process, often sitting nearby as I worked, his presence a comforting reminder of why this project was so important.
The vinyl record player and our rare vinyl collection were a perfect fit for Romeo’s Cove, ready to fill the space with nostalgic tunes. The humidor was stocked with premium cigars, and every element started to come together, reflecting the blend of sophistication and warmth I had envisioned. The final layers of polish were added, and the furniture was carefully arranged to create inviting, intimate spaces.
By the end of June 2023, Nero’s Bar was complete. The transformation over three months was nothing short of magical. What started as a dream had become a reality, a space filled with character, warmth, and the spirit of Nero.
Looking back on the build, I’m filled with a deep sense of accomplishment and gratitude. The year of planning and the three months of intense work have culminated in a bar that is not just a place to drink but a celebration of life, friendship, and memories. Nero’s Bar is a testament to the love and bond I shared with Nero and the joy of bringing people together in a space that feels like home.
